Our Virtual Keypad

22/06/2009

As an ING DIRECT customer you will certainly have noticed the “virtual keypad” that you use when logging in to online banking, by clicking on the numbers to enter your Access Code. You might have wondered why this is necessary and what the benefits are.

The ING DIRECT virtual keypad is an important security feature in defending your account against online criminals. There are malicious “Trojan” software programs that can be installed on your computer without your knowledge. These Trojans often steal information from your computer and send it back to criminals, which is used for a variety of purposes such as stealing money from your bank account.

The virtual keypad is one way in which ING DIRECT can help to prevent your Access Code from ending up in the hands of a criminal, even if you happen to have a Trojan installed on your computer. This is because Trojans often will log your keystrokes on your computer, and when you use a virtual keypad instead, they cannot determine what your Access Code is.

It is a simple but effective way in which ING DIRECT protects your money and information.
