Millions of reasons to save your
money with us
In these days of global financial uncertainty, it's reassuring to know that the organisation looking after your money is part of ING GROUP, one of the largest and most successful financial institutions in the world.
ING Group offers banking, insurance and asset management to more than 60 million clients in over 50 countries.
As part of the ING GROUP, ING DIRECT is the world's largest direct bank. In Australia we're the sixth largest retail bank, with Standard and Poor's AA credit rating - the same as Commonwealth Bank, NAB, Westpac and ANZ.
Our 1.2 million ING DIRECT customers in Australia can count on us for safety, stability and excellent value banking.
We've inflated our Savings Maximiser promotional variable rate from 7.90% p.a. to 8.00% p.a. effective 23 June 2008 which you can earn on any eligible deposits you make until 30 September 2008.
Just log into your account by opening a new browser window and typing ingdirect.com.au or call us on 133 464 any time you like.
On 30 April 2008, as part of the ING Foundation volunteering program, 20 ING DIRECT staff hosted
a community BBQ for disadvantaged and homeless families in Sydney's inner city suburb of
Woolloomooloo. Volunteers prepared, cooked and served food and engaged kids in activities such
as basketball, tennis, face painting and more. The Community BBQ, organised by United Way Sydney, aims to bring a sense of community to financially or socially disadvantaged people
and families living in public housing areas. It was an incredibly positive afternoon for families in this
area.
Irreverent, cheeky, and irrepressibly honest, Billy Connolly has been the face of ING advertising in Australia for almost eight years now, and last year he made his first appearance in ING DIRECT's advertising. So, what is it that makes Billy such a great face for our brand?
We think it's because Billy embodies what the ING DIRECT brand stands for - namely, fairness. He represents the voice of a no-nonsense customer. His humour and honesty combined with
ING DIRECT's customer-friendly products and services have helped create one of Australia's most well-liked brands.
In our advertising, the emphasis is on dialogue. That's why we usually film Billy in a simple setting talking about his observation and what ING DIRECT can offer. This format helps us highlight the difference of our offering and the simplicity of our products. When in the studio, we film just him. The background set is dropped in afterwards.
The effect is eye-catching, humorous and memorable. Just like the man himself, really. Keep an eye out for our commercials featuring Billy, which are on TV at the moment.
Just like receiving statements online, there are lots of easy things you can do to save money - and the planet.
As you may know, ING DIRECT is supporting a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) project in Northern Australia to help understand more about the very rare Snubfin, its habitat, feeding and breeding habits.
So far only four Snubbies have been observed, although the project is still only in its second month.
ING DIRECT contributed $50,000 toward the research boat for the project. We have also made an additional donation of $50,000 and we'll be making another donation at the end of the year. Every customer that opts for e-statements generates a $2 contribution to the project from ING DIRECT. Thanks to environmentally-minded customers like you (which is about half of all our customers) we have made a significant contribution to this cause and prevented tonnes of waste paper.

When we asked you all to send in your saving tips, we weren't prepared for the amazing response we would get! Saving is obviously close to all our hearts and it was great to read your ideas for successful saving. One of our favourites - "Budget Buddies" from Savings Maximiser customer Dorothy, wins our $100 Bonus Interest prize.
Her idea for joining forces with friends and colleagues to encourage and help each other reach saving goals was inspired. For example, Dorothy recommends exchanging saving tips and tapping into each buddy's strengths. One may be able to cook economical meals. Another might have contacts in retail, enabling saving on necessary purchases. As Dorothy said: "With a Budget Buddy, saving isn't a lonely road." Keep your ideas coming!*
