I'm Saving A Species

ING DIRECT is helping WWF-Australia save a rare species - with a little help from our customers.

On 6 March, a new Australian dolphin research boat was launched in Darwin, thanks to a $50,000 donation from ING DIRECT and ongoing help from our customers.

The boat will play a vital role in researching Australia's recently discovered snubfin dolphin, which WWF has given its highest Priority One Flagship Species status. When they gave us the opportunity to help save it from extinction, we jumped at the chance.

For every one of our customers that opted for e-statements, we donated $2 to the snubfin dolphin project, raising a combined total of over $50,000.

No Fees Please

Try these fee-saving tips. At the supermarket, get cash out using EFTPOS when you pay for your groceries. Try withdrawing more cash at ATMs - so you won't have to withdraw as often. And don't forget to check the fees and terms and conditions of your particular bank account.

I need a 'leg up' on the property ladder

Rising interest rates and high property prices are making it even harder to get a foot on the property ladder. The key to success is discipline - having a plan and sticking to it.

Set a goal: Typically, you'll want to save at least 3% of the property's value or 20% if you want to avoid mortgage insurance. Work out how much you need - and by when.

Save at a faster rate: If you have money already, try putting it in a Term Deposit. You'll generally get a higher rate - and your money will be locked away from temptation.

Do it automatically: Set up an Automatic Savings Plan (ASP) for your Savings Maximiser and you won't have to remember to save - it'll happen automatically by transferring money from your linked bank account to your Savings Maximiser account.

Get a helping handout from the government: The government offers stamp duty rebates and exemptions to home buyers, varying from state to state, and if you are eligible we'll help arrange the First Home Buyer's Grant on your behalf.
