My name is Leigh Fortunato; I’m the Manager of the HR Services team, so what that means is the girls in my team look after remuneration and reward, occupational health and safety, workers compensation, payroll and HR administration so it’s quite a varied team. I’ve also got the Receptionist reporting to me as well. My role is on a part time basis and I look after all those functions and make sure they run smoothly.

The ING DIRECT culture is like no other culture that I’ve experienced in other organisations because the people genuinely love to be here and everyone is really committed to making it a better place to work. People are empowered to make a difference and so it’s not their management saying this is going to be our culture and this is how you are going to behave; people are recruited because they are a good culture fit to the organisation and those people really want to make it an even better place to work so everyone at all levels of the organisation are committed to making it a better place to work regardless of their role.

At ING DIRECT there’s heaps of stories of people who have come in at a more junior level and worked into more senior roles or into specialist areas and have really developed their career while they’ve been at ING DIRECT. so I know lots of people who started within the Call Centre or perhaps even within the Operations Function and have moved into quite a senior role within our specialist areas, so maybe even HR, Financial Control, Marketing or even Risk Management. So at ING DIRECT you can still develop your career don’t necessarily have to stay in the business unit in which you first come into or that your qualifications may be in - there are options to move into other areas.

ING DIRECT I can honestly say really supports individuals in their own personal growth and their professional growth so they have got so many opportunities for people who are just hungry to learn more and develop themselves and that’s the whole reason I’ve stayed with the organisation for so long because I don’t believe any other company does it as well as ING DIRECT, the opportunities are just endless it’s just really up to the individual how far you want to go and how far you want to take your own development.
